WE ARE HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE THE 4th EDITION OF THE

JOOP DESIGN AWARD

AS PART OF THE  11th EDITION OF JOOP.

Starting from 2020 along with the qualitative awards the competition decided to award also producers who have committed with passion to communicate the identity of their product through the logo, the bottling, and the packaging: all very important details in a market like the Japanese one. This award wishes to bring to the attention of producers the importance of paring a good product with an appealing brand identity.
The panel of the jury for the 4th JOOP DESIGN AWARD is comprised of some of the most prestigious names in the field of design and architecture from the most represented countries of the competition and the hosting one.

BRET RECOR

US

Bret Recor is an industrial designer, entrepreneur, and investor. Founder and director of San Francisco based design studio Box Clever, Bret is a veteran in the industry, having worked with brands like Knoll, Herman Miller, Away, Nebia, and more, and is an expert in creating physical experiences that delight consumers and help companies lead market categories.
Bret’s work has earned several global awards including INDEX, Spark, IDEA, iF, Clio, D&AD, FX, Spark, and Red Dot and is part of the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art (New York), SFMOMA, Art Institute of Chicago, and the Centre Pompidou.

 

DAY STUDIO

TURKEY

DAY Studio is a multidisciplinary design and consultancy office founded by Yeşim Eröktem and  Doğanberk Demir in 2015 following their masters degree at ECAL. The studio works on various fields including furniture, lighting and  textile design, industrial products and packaging design.
DAY Studio has received prestigious Kristal Elma and EDIDA awards and nominated for Wallpaper* The Officine Panerai Next Generation Designer of the Year. Most recently DAY Studio co-founder Yeşim Eröktem was included in  the Phaidon book Woman Made: Great Women Designers amongst 200 women product designers from the early twentieth century to the present day.

 

GIULIO LACCHETTI

ITALY

Giulio Iacchetti, industrial designer since 1992, designs for brands such as Abet Laminati, Alessi, Danese, Foscarini, Magis, and Moleskine. Winner of two Compassi d’Oro awards together with Matteo Ragni, the first in 2001 with Moscardino for Pandora Design, the second in 2014 with the Sfera series of manhole covers for Montini, in 2009 he was awarded the Premio dei Premi for innovation, given to him by the President of the Republic for the Eureka Coop project.
In 2009, the Milan Triennale hosted his solo exhibition, “Giulio Iacchetti. Disobedient Objects.” Always attentive to the relationship between artisan reality and design, he launched Internoitaliano in 2012. He is the creator of several exhibitions including: “Crucial,” exhibited in Milan, Rome, and Enna, “Ration K, the soldier’s meal in action” and “Laundry clips,” produced by the Milan Triennale.

 

MAKIO HASUIKE

JAPAN

Makio Hasuike graduated in 1962 from Tokyo University of the Arts. Since 1963 he has been active in Italy. He founded his studio in Milan in 1968, one of the first industrial design studios in Italy. In more than fifty years of activity he has developed numerous projects in heterogeneous fields: from technological instruments to accessories and tools for work and leisure, from small and large household appliances to furniture and giftware.
He has won prestigious awards and some of his designs are displayed in permanent exhibitions such as the MoMA in New York. Makio Hasuike is one of the founding committee members of the Master in Strategic Design at Politecnico di Milano. In 2016, he received the Compasso d’Oro Career Design Award.

 

ANSELMO TUMPIĆ

CROATIA

Anselmo Tumpić has been working in Croatia since 2017 as a creative director and co-owner of Studio Tumpić/Prenc, an agency for design and visual communications. His fields of work and interest are art, design, and advertising.
He worked for Fabrica (Benetton communication research center), BBDO, and Saatchi & Saatchi in Milan. He has received prestigious awards, such as Red Dot Best of the Best, Grand Prix at the European Design Award, ADC Award (NY), Communication Art Award, Epica, Eurobest, Pentawards, and Dieline Awards.

 

KEIJI ASHIZAWA

JAPAN

Keiji Ashizawa graduated from the Yokohama National University Department of Architecture and began his professional career in 1996, working in an architecture firm. In 2002, he officially joined the bespoke steel furniture workshop ‘super robot’, where he began working on original furniture and lighting fixtures.
In 2005, he founded Keiji Ashizawa Design, whose motto is ‘Honest Design’. Ashizawa designs architecture, interiors and furniture with an emphasis on craft. In addition to working on a variety of domestic and international architecture and interior projects and for furniture manufacturers, he is also the head of Ishinomaki Laboratory, which was born as a result of the Great East Japan Earthquake.

 

KOSUKE ARAKI

JAPAN

Born in 1988 in Geneva, Switzerland, Kosuke Araki is a Japanese designer and maker living in Tokyo. He creates works in search of values or sensitivities that have been slighted in the process of rapid modernisation. With appreciation of nature, he carefully listens to the voice of things and ponders ways to retrieve humanity in our life. He studied at Tama Art University and Royal College of Art.
His works have been appreciated and exhibited internationally, including Kunstgewerbemuseum, the MAK Wien, La Triennale di Milano, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). His food-waste-made tableware ‘Anima’ has been acquired for the collection of V&A, MoMA and CID Grand Hornu.

 

PROMPONG HAKK

THAILAND

Prompong Hakk is the creative mind and strategist behind the duo that founded shakes bkk, one of Thailand’s leading and award-winning industrial design studios. Of Thai origin but raised in Germany and educated both in Germany and the United Kingdom, he draws his inspiration and discipline from a mix of spicy, stable, and discerning influences.
He strives to build the importance and value of Design in business by focusing on SMEs in Asia and Thailand. Through a variety of Creative Services ranging from Branding, Packaging, and Industrial Design, he has won several awards including Red Dot, A’ Design Award, The Good Design Awards, IDA and German Design Nomination.
