WE ARE HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE THE 5th EDITION OF THE

JOOP DESIGN AWARD

AS PART OF THE  13th EDITION OF JOOP.

Starting from 2020 along with the qualitative awards the competition decided to award also producers who have committed with passion to communicate the identity of their product through the logo, the bottling, and the packaging: all very important details in a market like the Japanese one. This award wishes to bring to the attention of producers the importance of paring a good product with an appealing brand identity.
The panel of the jury for the 5th JOOP DESIGN AWARD is comprised of some of the most prestigious names in the field of design and architecture from the most represented countries of the competition and the hosting one.

RAFAEL MONEO

SPAIN
Rafael Moneo, born in 1937 in Spain, is a renowned architect and professor, known for works such as the National Museum of Roman Art in Mérida and the Kursaal Auditorium in San Sebastián. He has taught at prestigious institutions, including Harvard University, and is the author of numerous writings on architecture. Moneo has received many recognitions, including the Pritzker Prize (1996) and the Royal Gold Medal (2003).

Marc Sadler, French-born in Austria and Italian by adoption, was a pioneer in material experimentation and the fusion of different technologies, distinctive features of his work. In the 1970s, he created the first ski boot made of recyclable thermoplastic material. He has won the Compasso d’Oro four times, along with 4 Honorable Mentions from the ADI (Industrial Design Association), and received numerous other significant international recognitions over the years.

Ludovica Serafini and Roberto Palomba, architects and designers, founded the Palomba Serafini Studio in 1994 in Milan, specializing in architecture, interior design, industrial design, fashion, and yacht design. Their distinctive approach combines a contemporary vision of society with a deep knowledge of the historical and cultural roots of design. With over 70 international awards, they collaborate with prestigious design brands like Artemide, Fendi Home, Maserati, and Zanotta.

Choi Byung Hoon, considered to be the father of Contemporary Korean Design, has become well known for his work in modernizing the Korean traditions. Employing natural materials such as wood, granite and basalt, Choi’s practice is rooted in craft traditions while evoking a global and transhistorical frame of reference. He had been a professor of College of Fine Arts at Hongik University (Seoul, Korea) from 1990 to 2017 and is currently Honorary Professor at Hongik University. His work is held in numerous collections throughout the world, including the Museum of Modern Art; New York, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, etc

Denis Guidone is a design and architecture studio based in Tokyo. Fascinated by the contrasts between East and West, he blends their aesthetics with precise, unconventional design to create elegant, eye-catching pieces. He has won international awards, including the IDA Design Award in Los Angeles, and received the Bruno Munari Prize in 2009 at the Triennale di Milano. In 2018, he was appointed ambassador of Italian design by the Triennale of Milan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Guidone has designed for renowned brands like Fontana Arte, Roche Bobois, Magis, and Ligne Roset, among others.
