Description

Mancini Olio di Roma PGI – Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Itrana, Leccino & Frantoio · 500 ml

Olio di Roma PGI is the extra virgin olive oil of Lazio, the heart of Italy, where olive growing dates back to the 7th century BC. Ancient Rome valued oil so highly that the city's river port at Testaccio still holds the «Monte dei Cocci», a hill made entirely of broken oil amphorae.

Our Olio di Roma starts from Itrana, the native cultivar of our hometown, Itri. Our family blends it with Leccino and Frantoio through a careful selection, creating a profile unique among the oils of central and southern Italy. The olives are hand-picked in October, 15 to 21 days before full ripeness, and milled at our family mill within 6 hours of harvest.

Tasting notes. Green to golden-yellow in colour. On the nose, a broad and elegant fruitiness with notes of tomato, artichoke, freshly cut grass, chicory and almond. On the palate it is complex, with vegetal hints, a pleasant bitterness and pungency, and touches of artichoke, cardoon and sweet almond.

Pairings. Excellent raw and in the traditional dishes of Rome and Lazio, simple recipes in which olive oil is the star.

Origin. Protected Geographical Indication, produced in Lazio, Italy.
