COMPANY PROFILE
The ANCIENT OLIVE OIL COMPANY OF SARDINIA has its roots since the second half of the 1800s: for four generations the FOIS family has been dedicated to the cultivation and production of olive oil. A tradition that ANTONIO GAVINO FOIS, current owner, carries on together with his brother Raffaele, family and a team that for many years has been taking care of the fields, harvesting and operations in the oil mill. Passion, rigor and quality are the foundations of this company, which boasts the experience combined with modern systems, to best guarantee quality control and respect for the environment. The company is now certified ISO 9001 and “Quality research system” and ISO 14001 “Compliance and monitoring of environmental legislation energy savings and costs”. It also enjoys the “Parco di Porto Conte” Environmental Quality Label.
SHORT STORY
- In 2000 the first qualitative leap took place with the inauguration of the new more comfortable and functional company headquarters.
- In 2001 the semiautomatic packaging plant was purchased.
- In 2004 the new state-of-the-art plant for cold oil extraction, which enhances and organoleptically improves the product, starts operating.
- All production today is certified “cold extracted”.
- The Company adopts the ISO 22005 certified supply chain traceability system from field to sale.
- In the spring of 2011, the nitrogen conservation plant came into operation.
- In 2015 he purchased a new and larger all-stainless steel sorting machine to speed up the cleaning of the olives.
- Convinced that quality is born in the field, today the extraction plant is flanked by three latest generation shakers, six tractors and all that equipment to facilitate the human work necessary to guarantee constant and high quality olive production.
- Always open to innovation, in 2019, we concluded a corporate restructuring project that involved the transformation plant and the field equipment.
PRODUCTION DATA
The company manages 195 hectares of traditional olive groves in the Alghero area, 15 owned and 180 leased, over 25,000 old olive trees (25,223 of which 23,500 for rent and 1,723 own / data 2018/2019), for 95% of the “Bosana” or “Palma di Alghero” cultivar: numbers that classify it among the major oil companies in Sardinia. The company avails itself of the collaboration of 19 seasonal employees, hired with different duties in the field and in the oil mill.
PROJECTS
Following a path already traced, the Company in December 2018 purchased a flat land of 80 hectares, where the largest olive grove in the municipality of Alghero will be born. The olive grove will be irrigated, planted with a traditional intensive system. It will mainly plant Bosana cultivars, plus some Sardinian cultivars, for a total of about 23,000 plants. The company produces 5 different oils: Camp del Rey, Las Tanas, Logu de Oro, Figuera and Calabona.
